About Me
Photographer, Branding Expert, Adventure Junkie, Cancer Survivor
A Small Dose of Real Talk (With a Side of Photography)
Hey there, I’m Rex Jones. Think of me as your photographer, cinematographer, branding expert, and accidental stand-up comic—minus the stage and plus a camera. I got my start with a 35mm film camera and a darkroom. That was back when “digital editing” meant literally cutting and taping negatives together. Now, I spend my time capturing life in all its chaotic glory, because let’s face it, if you’re not laughing at the absurdity of it all, you’re probably missing out.
A Lens, Some Coffee, and a Whole Lot of Adventure
I’ve been wielding a camera for over a decade—long enough to have taken some questionable photos that’ll never see the light of Instagram. Starting out in Saint George, Utah, I became obsessed with making landscapes look like they had just auditioned for a movie. Today, my work spans the entire nation, from Utah’s red rocks to New York’s concrete jungle, and I’m just as likely to be hanging out of a helicopter as I am crouched behind a cactus. I’m not here to take nice pictures; I’m here to deliver visuals that practically slap you in the face. In a good way, of course.
Nature Is My Cubicle, and I’m Okay With That
The great outdoors isn’t just my playground; it’s my cubicle, conference room, and coffee shop rolled into one. Whether I’m snapping the untouched beauty of Southern Utah or the gritty streets of San Francisco, I’m always chasing that one shot that says more than words ever could. Adventure photography isn’t just a job—it’s the reason my camera bag weighs more than your average toddler. But hey, no one ever said capturing beauty would be lightweight work. I’ll shoot anywhere the story takes me, because, unlike traffic laws, adventure should have no limits.
Mentoring Photographers, One Snap at a Time
I’m not just here to take your photos; I’m here to help you take better ones. As someone who’s been around the block (and maybe tripped over the curb a few times), I offer one-on-one mentoring, workshops, and online classes. I’ll show you everything from basic camera settings to advanced editing techniques—because there’s more to photography than “throw on a filter and hope for the best.” Think of me as your photography guru—minus the robes and mystical jargon. I provide real-world advice for getting killer shots and, just as importantly, avoiding the not-so-killer ones.
Life Outside the Camera: Cancer Didn’t Stand a Chance
Now, let’s get real for a minute. I’m a cancer survivor—lymphoma, to be specific. When I was diagnosed, it was like getting handed a script with a plot twist that nobody asked for. But you don’t beat cancer by curling up into a ball. I took it on with optimism, grit, and a dash of sarcasm. Chemo may have knocked me down, but I got right back up, camera in hand. Because if you’re not capturing life’s moments—especially the tough ones—you’re letting them pass you by.
The American Cancer Society shared my story (check it out here), where I talked about how staying active helped keep my sanity intact. Look, life didn’t stop just because I was fighting cancer, and neither did I. I kept working, shooting, and finding reasons to smile. If cancer taught me anything, it’s that life is way too short for boring photos—or boring anything, really.
